The Way of Christ
The Way of Christ is a reflective worship song inspired by Philippians 2, inviting us to look again at the humility of Jesus. Rather than pursuing status or recognition, Christ willingly came among us, taking the nature of a servant and giving Himself in love. As we consider His example, the song becomes a simple prayer that our lives would be shaped by the same self-giving mindset.
The Way of Christ is based on Philippians 2:1–11 (opens in a new tab), one of the New Testament's clearest pictures of the character of Jesus. Paul encourages believers to value others above themselves and then points to Christ as the perfect example of true humility (Philippians 2:3–5).
The song reflects on Jesus, who, though fully God, willingly humbled Himself by taking the nature of a servant, becoming obedient even to death on a cross (Philippians 2:6–8). His humility was not weakness but the expression of perfect love and obedience to the Father. Because of this, God highly exalted Him, so that one day every knee will bow and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father (Philippians 2:9–11).
Rather than simply retelling the passage, the song invites us to see Christ's humility as the pattern for our own lives. As we contemplate the way He chose to serve rather than to grasp for position, the closing prayer echoes Paul's challenge to "have the same mindset as Christ Jesus" (Philippians 2:5), asking that our own lives would increasingly reflect His compassion, humility and self-giving love.

Lyrics
When I think I’m standing tall,
Your word quietly asks another question.
Who did I notice today?
Who did I overlook?
It’s easier to defend my place
than to step aside
and make room for someone else.
Then You remind me
what greatness looked like.
[Pre-Chorus]
Not a louder voice.
Not a higher seat.
But the life of Jesus.
[Chorus]
You came down,
down into our dust.
Never letting go
of who You are.
You went low
to bring us near.
This is the way.
This is the way of Christ.
[Verse 2]
You never clung
to what was already Yours.
Nothing had to be proved.
Nothing had to be protected.
The hands that shaped the stars
learnt tired feet
and ordinary days.
The Lord of all
became the servant of all.
[Pre-Chorus]
Love did not lose
when it chose humility.
[Chorus]
You came down,
down into our dust.
Never letting go
of who You are.
You went low
to bring us near.
This is the way.
This is the way of Christ.
[Bridge]
One day
every argument will end.
Every name
lifted high by this world
will fall silent.
Every knee will bend.
Every tongue will confess
Jesus Christ is Lord,
to the glory
of God the Father.
The road that led to the cross
was never defeat.
It was always
the way of the King.
[Final Chorus]
You came down,
down into our dust.
Never letting go
of who You are.
You went low
to bring us near.
This is the way.
This is the way of Christ.
[Outro]
So teach my heart
the mind of Christ.
Lift my eyes
to notice others.
Teach these hands
to give away.
May the shape of my life
tell the story
of Yours.
Amen.
